Dan Coats to be appointed Donald Trump's director of national intelligence
Donald Trump is set to name former Indiana senator Dan Coats as director of national intelligence.
Insiders said the appointment is likely to be officially announced later this week.
Mr Coats is a conservative who spent 16 years in the Senate. He announced his retirement last year and did not seek re-election.
Mr Trump has been sharply critical of the nation's intelligence agencies and has cast doubt on their conclusion that Russia was behind hacking to influence last year's election.
On Friday, Mr Trump will meet with directors of the FBI and CIA, as well as current national intelligence director James Clapper, to be briefed on their findings.
