CervicalCheck campaigner Vicky Phelan has said her oncologist has contacted her to strongly advise her to avoid large gatherings of people because she is a risk group for the new coronavirus due to suffering from cervical cancer.

The Limerick mother-of-two said she has cancelled all events for March in order to “do my bit” to help contain the virus and protect herself and other vulnerable members of the community.

She announced on Twitter that avoiding touching her face to reduce the risk of infection “is the one I fine the hardest” since it is a habit and “habits are hard to break.”.

She added that “we all need to do what see can to slow the spread of this virus.”

Key messages are to wash hands more often for at least twenty seconds with soap and water.

Avoid touching the face and cough and sneeze into the elbow.
