An Post will deliver newspapers directly to people's homes as part of the response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The postal service is working with local and national newspaper representative bodies to set up a system where people who are quarantined or in self-isolation can place an order for their newspapers online and have them delivered to their door.
NewsBrands Ireland, the representative body for publishers, confirmed it is working with An Post to set up the system.
An Post CEO David McRedmond said he hoped to have it in place by the start of next week.
"People will be able to register to get those newspapers delivered. We'll start off with the elderly and vulnerable and then we will roll that out," he said.
NewsBrands Ireland CEO Ann Marie Lenihan, said it was "acutely aware of the difficulties they may be having in getting their daily newspaper" during the current crisis.
It's unclear if the scheme will continue after public health restrictions are lifted.
