Child rape victim (10) gives birth to baby girl after being denied abortion
A girl who claimed she was raped several times by her uncle has given birth to a baby girl after she was denied permission for an abortion.
The Indian Supreme Court last month ruled that the young girl (10) could not have an abortion on the grounds that she was too far into her pregnancy.
The BBC reports she has now given birth to a baby weighing 2.5kg (5.5lb) and was delivered by Caesarean section.
During her pregnancy she was told her bulge was because she had a stone in her stomach.
Her uncle, who she claims raped her a number of times, has been arrested.
The girl was 32-weeks pregnant when the court made its decision on July 18 in a case that has shocked India and made headlines around the world.
A 1970s law bars abortions in India after 20 weeks, although courts have made exceptions when the foetus could not survive or if the mother's life was at risk.
