British doctor punches shark while surfing in Australia
A British doctor says he punched a shark on the nose to escape its jaws while surfing off the Australian coast.
Charlie Fry was left with superficial puncture wounds on his right shoulder and upper arm after the attack on Monday afternoon off Avoca Beach, north of Sydney.
The 25-year-old told Nine Network television he was surfing with three doctor friends when he felt a "massive thud" on his side.
He said the shark's head rose from the water and he "punched it in the face" before climbing back on his board and surfing to shore.
Mr Fry's friends drove him to nearby Gosford Hospital where they all work, rather than waiting for an ambulance.
