An anonymous diner is leaving tips worth thousands of dollars at restaurants across America.

Using the pseudonym "tipsforjesus" the man has left tips of up to $10,000 (€7,270) in one go at places from New York to San Francisco. The name links to an Instagram account filled with photos documenting the tips with the tagline, "Doing the Lord's work, one tip at a time."

WITCH-DOCTOR HUNT

New laws in an Indian state are aimed at witch-doctors and religious charlatans who use beliefs and superstitions to defraud or harm followers.

Once the bill is signed by the governor of Maharashtra, police will be able to investigate religious fraud, extremism and human sacrifice. Politicians in the state passed the legislation following an 18-year debate and intense lobbying from activist Narendra Dabholkar, who was murdered this year after receiving death threats for encouraging villagers to embrace secular and scientific reason.

DRUGS HIDDEN IN 'GIFTS'

Police in Pennsylvania in the US found 20lb of marijuana in boxes wrapped as Christmas presents inside a van after a traffic stop.

They became suspicious of the 38-year-old driver and got him to agree to a search. The drugs were found vacuum-sealed inside large boxes wrapped as Christmas gifts. Better watch out.

This year's SantaCon takes place in New York amid criticism that the event has become too rowdy. SantaCon participants were told to make charitable donations and encouraged to bring small gifts to bestow on one another and passers-by.
