A man has been jailed for four years and nine months after attacking his wife and her friend with a machete which was the apparent result of a 'brain snap'.

Clint Baker attacked his estranged wife Susan Baker and her female friend at a caravan park in New South Wales.

He screamed "You are my f***ing wife' at Ms Baker as she trued to protect her friend Caitlyn Grayson.

On Monday in the District Court in Sydney he was jailed after admitting a number of offences including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving offences.

Acting Judge Anthony Garling said the crimes appeared to flow from "a brain snap fuelled by alcohol" the the Australian Associated Press is reporting.

Clint also "drove directly" at an ambulance driver who responded to the scene.
