Authorities in Australia are investigating the death of a British woman in a Melbourne strip club.

Stacey Tierney (29) was working as an exotic dancer at Dreams Gentlemen's Club, where her body was found just before midday on December 19.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the English woman’s death are yet to be determined and a post-mortem will be conducted,” a police spokeswoman told The Australian.

Ms Tierney is understood to have been a fitness instructor from Manchester who had been travelling and working in Australia for the last three years.

The young woman was partying with a group of men in the hours before her death, and is believed to have been dead for almost half a day before her body was discovered.

Her family told the media; "“We are finding it difficult to get information, and realise there is an investigation regarding the suspicious circumstances.”

Meanwhile, friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to the young woman.

Police are now attempting to piece together the events that led to Ms Tierney's death and are checking all available CCTV footage.
