Footage has emerged of a cyclist being deliberately hit by a four wheel drive in Australia.

According to 7 News Melbourne, the driver has now been fined $1,000 AUD for 'reckless driving causing injury'.

An enraged driver can be seen jumping from his four wheel drive after apparently deliberately knocking a nearby cyclist onto the ground.

The driver then stops the car to speak to the cyclist before throwing his bike into nearby bushes on Inkermen Street in Melbourne's St Kilda.

The new footage was shared by the Australian Cycle Alliance, who blamed "road rage" for a number of deaths on Australian roads.

"Although this is a year old, it shows the level of disgust we have on our roads," they posted on Twitter.

"#Roadrage and #Entitlement are killing people on our roads.

"Although this driver was fined, it was $1000, what is a life worth? Why should I share the road with this guy?"
