Video: Woman runs over ex-boyfriend after row
CCTV footage captures the moment a woman in New Zealand apparently tries to run over her ex-boyfriend following an argument
The hit-and-run incident happened in Waikato on New Zealand's North Island and the woman involved has since been sent for psychological evaluation, police say.
CCTV footage from outside the supermarket showed a blue car knocking a man to the ground, the car then reversed and drove back towards the man.
Witness Kanj Patel heard a couple arguing outside his parents' shop. The 15-year-old said he heard the man telling the woman that he was going to leave her "and then she ran him over".
"The first time we thought it was just an accident but then the second time we knew it wasn't," Kanj said.
Kanj, who had recently completed an advanced St John Ambulance first aid course, said the man had severe cuts on his legs, a large bruise on his tailbone and was bleeding from the back of his head.
"I was shocked and I was shaking but I had to do something to help him.
"He was swearing a bit but we took him a cushion and another person got him a towel for his head and we tried to keep him comfortable."
The 44-year-old woman then drove into a nearby river and had to be rescued by the emergency services.
Waikato police spokesman Andrew McAlley confirmed today the driver involved in the incident had been released from hospital yesterday. "She's been sent for psychological evaluation."
The man involved was in a moderate condition at Waikato Hospital.
