Man sentenced for 12 years for knifing US ambassador in face
A Seoul court has handed a 12-year prison term to a South Korean man who slashed and seriously injured the US ambassador.
Kim Ki-jong has been sentenced at Seoul Central District Court, according to reports.
Kim slashed Mark Lippert during a Seoul breakfast forum in March, leaving deep gashes on the envoy's face and arm. Mr Lippert was treated for five days at a Seoul hospital.
Kim has described himself as an anti-US activist. He told police that his assault was a protest over US-South Korean military drills, but that he had no intention of killing the ambassador.
