Indian man beheads daughter because he was 'upset with her indecent behaviour'
A MAN in western India paraded his daughter's severed head through his village, after he killed her because he was upset with her lifestyle and "indecent behaviour".
Marble miner Ogad Singh, beheaded his daughter, Manju Kunwar, with a sword before surrendering to authorities.
The 20 year-old had been living with her parents in the Rajasthani village of Dungarji, 250 miles from Jaipur after leaving her husband two years ago.
Police Superintendent Umesh Ojha says Singh was angered by a series of affairs his daughter had recently had, and became enraged when she eloped with a man two weeks ago. He forced her to return home on Sunday, and beheaded her on Monday.
Kunwar's mother, a farmer, was working in the fields at the time and was too distressed to comment.
Kunwar's head and the rest of her body were cremated according to Hindu tradition, police said.
This is the latest example of the many social clashes a rapidly modernising India faces as young people resist traditions of arranged marriage and cultural pretexts dictating the behaviour of women.
This month India topped the Thomas Reuters Foundation poll as the worst place to be a woman in the top 19 economies in the world. The foundation cited abuse, killings and discrimination on a scale unparalleled in the other nations.
