A THAI man held his wife hostage for six hours at knifepoint in Bangkok city centre.

Sakdawut Hasmiri, 30, held the 10 inch blade to the throat of his Thawee Naiyanit, while allegedly being under the influence of drugs.

The stand-off drew big crowds as police were unable to reason with Hasmiri.

When he repeatedly refused police requests to release her, officers moved in and used a stun gun to electrocute and incapacitate him.

He was then arrested and taken to a police station for questioning.

Both husband and wife suffered minor cuts, but appeared largely unharmed.
