'Confused and injured' Irishman in Bali identified
IT IS understood that the “confused” Irishman who was found in Bali with horrific injuries has been identified.
A social media campaign was launched last night to help identify the injured young man, who is believed to be Irish and 26-years-old.
The Bali authorities had released pictures of the man, describing him as "confused".
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that they are aware of the case and “are providing consular assistance”.
Adding: “Any Irish citizens in Bali who require consular assistance in Bali are encouraged to contact the embassy in Singapore on +65 6238 7616.”
A source told Independent.ie that it is believed the identity of the man has been established since photos of him were posted online last night.
A statement on the ‘Australia’s Irish Community’ Facebook page - who are understood to have spearheaded the appeal for information about the young man- said that a spokesperson from the Department of Foreign Affairs revealed to them that they are “confident” they have identified the young man.
"Our representative in Singapore is confident that we have identified the young man and we are in contact with his family at the moment. They are very confident that they have identified him correctly, and thank everyone for their help and information passed on,” it continued.
