Another death from SARS-like virus in Saudi Arabia
One more person has died and two more have fallen ill in Saudi Arabia from the new respiratory virus, according to the Saudi Health Ministry today.
The country has been the worst affected by the virus with the ministry reporting 46 cases of infection, of whom 28 have died, thus far.
The latest death brings the worldwide death toll to 33, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), who have named the virus the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
The virus, which can cause coughing, fever and pneumonia, has reportedly spread to Europe.
It is a distant relative of the strain that triggered the outbreak of SARS in 2003, which killed 775 people.
