Watching an entire stadium wish Sachin Tendulkar a happy birthday reminds us what legendary status looks like
That’s a whole lot of happy birthdays.
In the world of sport, there aren’t many athletes more beloved by their nation than Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, and if you needed proof, check out this happy birthday rendition which an entire stadium sang for the batsman.
Tendulkar was born in Mumbai and spent his whole domestic career playing there, so it was only fitting that the team and crowd at the Wankhede Stadium celebrated his 44th birthday as the Indians took on the Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL.
Fair play to the crowd as well, who mostly seemed to sing “Sachin” during the crucial third line of the song – always a tricky moment.
Tendulkar scored 100 international centuries, and finished with a Test average of 53.78 at the crease after a career spanning four decades.
The 44-year-old made 15,921 Test runs during his career, more than 2,500 runs more than anyone else, as well as 18,426 runs at ODI level – he is beloved by fans all over the world.
Having made 68 half centuries during his Test career, reaching 44 will be a familiar feeling for the batsman.
