Watch Bastian Schweinsteiger take just 16 minutes to score on his MLS debut

By Max McLean

He’s still got it.

You might have been forgiven for thinking that Bastian Schweinsteiger was winding down to retirement after a move from Manchester United to Chicago Fire, but it looks as though he’s just getting started.

That much became clear when the German midfielder, just 32 years young, took only 16 minutes and 25 seconds to score his first MLS goal – this is one way to announce your arrival.

“Major League Soccer, meet your newest star…”

Back of the net.

The goal put Chicago Fire 1-0 up against Montreal Impact in the pair’s league fixture, although Impact equalised in stoppage time.

This seems a bit of an early shout.

Others reacted with topical humour – the World Cup jokes are going to stick around a while it seems.

And it wasn’t just the headline-grabbing goal that stood in Schweinsteiger’s favour.

We think the World Cup winner is going to like it across the pond.
