Watch: Amazing aerial display as massive 'murmuration' of starlings spotted in Israel's skies
Thousands of starlings have been filmed flying together in a 'murmuration', forming beautiful moving dark clouds in southern Israel.
The phenomenon, which was recorded near the Bedouin town of Rahat, appears like a black cloud that rapidly changed direction over the sky.
The movement helps the burst to find food and creates a defence mechanism against larger birds of prey, which usually try and attack smaller birds who are by themselves.
This is a rare sight over Israeli skies, as the number of small birds migrating over Israel has declined dramatically in recent years. in 2012, the birds have started to return, but the numbers are nowhere near where they used to be.
Experts say the best time to watch the murmuration is at dusk, where the birds will perform for around 20 minutes or so.
