US politicians are trolling Donald Trump with a brilliant acronym

By Kameron Virk

Shots well and truly fired.

Politicians in America seem like they get to have a lot of fun, especially when it comes to acronyms.

There’s the Prevention of Emotional Neglect and Childhood Endangerment (PENCE) bill – which aims to make gay conversion therapy illegal, and happens to have the same name as gay conversion therapy supporter Vice President Mike Pence.

But they may have outdone themselves with the acronym of a bill hoping to make Donald Trump publicly release the White House visitor logs. It’s called the Making Access Records Available to Lead American Government Openness bill, or MAR-A-LAGO.

If you’re unsure, Mar-a-Lago is the Florida golf course President Trump has spent an awful lot of time visiting since his inauguration – nine times so far.

The taxpayer-funded trips to what Trump has even dubbed the “Southern White House” have included some politics, with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe meeting the president there, and the proposed bill would make visitor logs to the golf course publicly available too.

New Mexico senator Tom Udall is behind the bill, and said that by refusing to release the White House visit logs Trump is “only validating the rampant concerns about who may be pulling the levers in his administration”.

We’re sure the creatively named bill will get the president’s attention.
