Watch out Glasgow, doughnuts are coming!

Canadian fast food chain Tim Hortons is opening its first store in the UK.

The brand synonymous with coffee and doughnuts, and some would argue central to Canadian culture, is hoping to woo consumers with its new store in Glasgow’s Argyle Street.

The first Tim Hortons restaurant opened in 1964 in Ontario, Canada, and has since spread across Canada, the United States and the Middle East. It currently has 4,590 restaurants, serving more than two billion cups of coffee every year.

Gurprit Dhaliwal, chief operating officer at Tim Hortons UK and Ireland, said: “We’ve witnessed Tim Hortons’ phenomenal success in Canada, and wanted to replicate this in Great Britain.

“It’s hard to explain just how important Tim Hortons is to Canadians, it’s not just a restaurant, it’s a way of life and a place of ‘home’, and we’re positive Great Britain will fall in love with the brand.”

The restaurant was sent up by Canadian Ice Hockey legend Tim Horton and is well known for its mini doughnuts known as Timbits.

Some Twitter users were over the moon at the news.

The question is, where will the next store open?
