This woman’s slow realisation about Tinder’s wordplay has everyone shook

It’s still faster than pretty much everyone else.

Swiping right and left in acceptance and disapproval has become part of the vocab for anyone using Tinder.

But perhaps there is more to the language surrounding the dating app than it first appears.

US blogger Alexandra Petri, a self-declared fan of puns, shared her thoughts about a bit of wordplay that many people may have missed.

Her realisation of the link between “matching” and “Tinder” could be called a slow burn.

And even if Petri has spotted something that the app makers didn’t intend, people were still shook.

And laughing that they hadn’t spotted the pun either.

But for some, they had their own theories about Tinder’s name and connected vocab.

Tinder has not yet commented on whether the wordplay is intentional.
