This tweet came back to haunt Theresa May as the hung parliament became a reality
“If I lose just six seats I will lose this election.”
Theresa May might be coming to regret her choice of words in a tweet posted in the middle of the election campaign.
On May 20, the Prime Minister tweeted: “If I lose just six seats I will lose this election and Jeremy Corbyn will be sitting down to negotiate with Europe.”

As it stands, the Tories have lost double that number at 12, failing to secure the 326 seats needed to gain overall majority of parliament.

The exit polls predicted a hung parliament and as soon as they were released at 10pm, Twitter users began reminding the Conservative leader of her earlier words.

Undoubtedly better than promising "if I lose just six seats, I will give up politics", as italian custom. https://t.co/s4r0G6pWOk— Luigi Castaldi (@lmcastaldi) June 8, 2017

Think twice before you tweet, folks.
