Today is Canada Day, and a particularly momentous one at that because it marks the 150th anniversary of the three North American colonies (Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) coming together as a Dominion part of the British Empire.
There have been celebrations for the country’s birthday across Canada, and also some special events held in the UK to mark the occasion.

On Canada Day it is also important not to forget those who lived in the country before its Confederation.
In a statement Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said: “Canada’s story stretches back long before Confederation, to the first people who worked, loved, and built their lives here, and to those who came here centuries later in search of a better life for their families.”
