These police officers took the best selfie with a drunk man who they helped get home safely

Now that’s one photo most people don’t find in their camera roll the morning after a night out…

Tasmania Police have shared a selfie they took with a man who was so drunk a taxi driver contacted them to help get him home.

The picture shows a partygoer known only as Reece laid in his bed behind two police who were waiting with him while a friend traveled over to look after him.

Reece posted the Facebook with a caption calling the police officers “legends”, and it was then shared by a friend of his on Reddit, where it got a lot of attention. And the police have since re-posted the selfie on their Facebook page to encourage party-goers to make sure they plan how they will get home safely from a night out.

Tasmania Police encourages party-goers to plan …

Tasmania Police encourages party-goers to plan ahead so they can enjoy their night. Senior Sgt Craig Fox, of Northern District, said that people should pre-arrange a designated driver, use public transport or organise a taxi if they were intending to have a big night.

“Make a plan about how you will get home before you have a drink. Then there’s no risk to you, your family, friends or others on the road,” Senior Sgt Craig Fox wrote in the Facebook post.

“Consideration should also be given to arranging alternative accommodation for the night, at either a friend’s house or hotel/motel to ensure your safety. People should stick together and look out for one another when going out, or when heading home.”

Snr Sgt Fox made of point of explaining that police don’t normally drive people home who were suffering from the effect of alcohol – but on this occasion, a taxi company had contacted them for help.

The police say they then found out Reece’s address and dropped him home. Of course, they didn’t leave before taking a selfie with Reece giving a thumbs-up from his bed…

Snr Sgt Fox said: “Because he was a bit worse for wear, our officers took the opportunity to record the moment with a selfie in the likely event he could not remember how he got home.”

A lot of people seem to be loving the selfie – the photo has over 9,000 likes on Facebook.

Maybe that’s because, while we all find photos we’ve forgotten about on our phones the morning after a night out, not many of us find selfies with police officers in our camera roll…yep, Reece definitely had a good story to tell his mates.
