Theo Walcott was left out of the England squad on his birthday, and people thought it was a bit harsh
And Yaya Toure thought he had it bad…
Theo Walcott has long been a feature of the England squad, and with Gareth Southgate’s first selection announced on the Arsenal winger’s birthday, what better present than to select the 28-year-old?
So much for nice-guy Southgate – the England manager decided against including Walcott in his squad for games against Germany and Lithuania, opting for players such as Adam Lallana and Nathan Redmond instead.
“Gareth, are you sure? You know it’s his… okay. I’ll send a card.”
In a career filled with injuries and mixed form, this might have been one of those times Walcott had genuinely earned his place, with 17 goals in 33 appearances this season.
Southgate was under no illusions about the effects of the decision – it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work this one out.
Here’s a gif representation of how we’re picturing Walcott’s 28th birthday going.
Someone send that man a Colin Caterpillar cake.
