Bomb disposal experts have blown up a suspected torpedo which a fishing vessel pulled up in its nets.

The crew alerted Clyde Coastguard when they discovered the 10 to 12ft device around two miles off Troon in Ayrshire at around 9.30pm on Thursday.

Coastguards contacted bomb disposal experts for advice and then told the crew to put the torpedo back overboard and mark the location with a buoy.

The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team from Faslane went to the scene and blew up the device on the seabed.
