One hundred and fifty councils made up of over 4,300 seats are up for grabs as local elections take place across England, but everyone knows the best thing about election day is dogs at polling stations.

In what has become a British election tradition, voters post pictures of their own pooches or dogs they have spotted near polling stations using the hashtag #DogsAtPollingStations.

Here are some of the cutest:

1. This fluffy little pooch

2. This dog’s owner enjoyed their chance to finally take part in the movement

3. Do dogs vote in the wizarding world?

4. Scout looks a little bit sad

5. This cat felt the need to stake its claim

6. Wizard and Sunny enjoyed their morning at the polls

7. As did this adorable pair

8. Ava the Dachshund posed for some pretty pictures on the grass and by the sign

9. Buddy welcomed voters at his polling station – look at that face!
