A tortoise reported stolen from a back garden has been found - in a neighbouring street.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the six-inch female Horsefield tortoise had been discovered close to its home in the village of West Alvington, near Kingsbridge in Devon.
Its owners had claimed the six-year-old reptile had been taken from the garden of their home some time between June 3 and June 5. Distinguishing features included a chip on the front right-hand side of the shell and "the remains of red nail varnish on the shell".
Police appealed for information regarding the theft on Wednesday but a spokesman confirmed on Friday: "The tortoise has been found safe in a neighbouring street and has been returned to its owner."
