Steaks were high as runaway bull charged Saints fan wearing red-and-white shirt
A runaway bull has charged at a Southampton Football Club fan called Portsmouth - and he was wearing his team's red-and-white shirt.
The supporter, Dan Portsmouth, was walking along Kingsley Gardens, Totton, Southampton, on Monday afternoon when the bull ran towards him.
Mr Portsmouth, 28, said that the bull, which had escaped its field, missed him by inches before it ran off and ended up endangering traffic on the nearby A326.
Hampshire Police were alerted and armed officers shot the bull.
Mr Portsmouth, a supermarket worker, wrote on Facebook that he wished he had worn Southampton's green away strip instead of the home strip which is mostly red - the colour infamous for upsetting bulls.
He wrote: "Runaway bull in West Totton runs towards me and I have to move out the way like a matador, maybe I should have worn my green away shirt out instead of the red and white stripes of my Saints home shirt."
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: "The bull was first reported in Alder Hill Drive, Totton, and was later seen heading northbound on the A326. Police hoped to contain it in the field but that was not possible.
"An armed officer shot the animal rather than risk it running off again."
