Say hello to the first baby orangutan at Chester Zoo in almost 10 years

By Jessica Pitocchi

The Bornean orangutan is critically endangered as of last year.

Chester Zoo has welcomed its first baby orangutan in nearly a decade.

Amazed onlookers were treated to a very special moment when mum Sarikei gave birth at 11.15am on Sunday.

The tiny newcomer is a critically endangered Bornean orangutan – the species faces a very high threat of extinction in the wild.

Which makes this little ape’s delivery all the more wonderful really.
