A flotilla of yellow rubber ducks intended for a fundraising event has been stolen from a police academy in suburban Chicago.

Some 2,500 ducks took flight this week from the Yorkville Citizens Police Academy, according to the Beacon-News in Aurora.

Police said several of the toy ducks have been found on a Yorkville highway and requested that any recovered ducks are returned to the academy.

Officers planned to use the ducks in their annual "Duck Pluck" to raise funds for the academy.
