Rise of the machines: Now robots have replaced waiters in China

The manager of the restaurant in Cixi, in east China’s Zhejiang Province, has replaced his staff of waiters with a team of robots in a bid to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to technology.

Fitted with LED faces, the robots can blink, smile, and laugh - and even break into dance when Gangnam Style is played.

The cyber servers, which move along magnetic strips on the floor, collect food from the kitchen and deliver it to waiting diners, much to the delight of visiting children.

For manager Lu, the change was all about preparing for the future.

As time goes by, our lives will become more and more high-tech.

"Catering has to have a breakthrough, I thought about robots and bought robots to serve us. I want Cixi residents to know that robots can enter into the catering industry." – RESTAURANT MANAGER
