Public loo changed into takeaway
A former public toilet in a Boston park is to undergo a dramatic change of use - it will be turned into a food outlet.
The 660sq ft "Pink Palace" on Boston Common was built in the 1920s but has not been used as a toilet in decades.
Now city officials have announced they have agreed to a 15-year lease with the Earl of Sandwich chain for a takeaway operation at the site.
The goal is to open the shop later this year or early next year following renovations.
Boston parks department commissioner Toni Pollak said the project is a chance to preserve the historic mausoleum-like structure while bringing new life to the Common.
