Proposing? Better start praying
For anyone taking the plunge and making a Leap Year marriage proposal, a prayer is now on hand, the Church of England has said.
A new prayer released to mark Leap Day, February 29, asks for God's blessings on the engaged couple - and that wedding planning should not overtake the "more important" preparation for a lifetime together.
The prayer, posted on the Church of England website, has been taken from Pocket Prayers of Blessing, by the Venerable Jan McFarlane, Archdeacon of Norwich.
The Church of England said February 29 is a popular day to get engaged, with women traditionally "allowed" to propose to men.
Ms McFarlane said: "This is a popular time of year to propose, and holding a newly-engaged couple before God in prayer is just about the best possible start they could have to their future together.
"My hope is that this new pocket book will help us to bring God's blessing into every situation, and will help us to remember that through good times - and bad - God is always there beside us."
