Pet goldfish has life-saving surgery in Australia

A pet goldfish in Australia is recovering from emergency surgery that removed a tumour from his head.

George, a 10-year-old goldfish, went under the knife after increased suffering, his vet Tristan Rich said.

Owner Pip Joyce said: "George is a beloved pet...we've had some good laughs out of him."

George was sedated in a bucket of water with anaesthetic. A gelatin sponge was used by Dr Rich to control the blood whilst the intricate procedure took place for 45 minutes.

He was given injections of antibiotics and painkillers after the surgery and is now expected to live for for another 20 years.
