Police have appealed for any witnesses to "monkey business" to come forward after a life-size gorilla statue was stolen in Staffordshire.

The model, made of resin, was on display in the car park of a furniture store in Hawkins Lane, Burton, but was taken on Tuesday afternoon.

Staffordshire Police have launched an investigation into the theft, which took place between 12.50pm and 4.45pm.

Inspector Bob Champeau of East Staffs Local Policing Team said: "It's life-size, so whoever took him would have struggled to get him in an ordinary car. It's also not the sort of thing that can be hidden easily so we're hoping someone may have seen something."

A police statement added: "Anyone with any information or who has witnessed any monkey business is asked to ring 101 quoting incident 77 of 9 November."
