A woman in the US insisted upon picking up her takeaway order from a drive-through restaurant before officers could charge her with drink-driving, according to police in Ohio.

Police in North Royalton were called after the woman's car was seen weaving and going off the road in the early hours of the morning earlier this month, the Plain Dealer newspaper of Cleveland reported.

An officer tracked the car to the drive-through of a Taco Bell restaurant and pulled up alongside.

The driver was wearing sunglasses and had slurred speech, the police report said. She was ordered to get out of line but proceeded to the second window to grab her takeaway.

Her blood-alcohol level tested at nearly twice the legal limit, police said.
