A hot tub has been left floating at sea after breaking loose from a houseboat that sank after getting into difficulties.
The 22-metre houseboat was one of two being towed by a tug seven miles from Newhaven, East Sussex, when it started taking on water at 4.50pm yesterday.
Newhaven's relief Severn Class lifeboat and her volunteer crew were launched but were unable to save the houseboat which sank at 5.36pm leaving debris including the hot tub.
A RNLI spokesman said: "The houseboat that sunk had a hot tub installed that came loose during the sinking.
"The hot tub was too large to recover on to the lifeboat. It is currently adrift in the English Channel. Its last known position was passed to Dover Coastguard."
