Fire crews take the bull by the horns and rescue Billy from a tree
A bull with his head stuck in a tree has been rescued by fire crews - using a winch and a riot shield.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said a crew equipped with specialist large animal rescue equipment responded to the unusual emergency in a field off Barby Road in Rugby shortly before 11am on Monday.
Another appliance based in Southam also attended and the hapless animal, named Billy by his rescuers, was freed at about 12.15pm.
In a post on its Facebook page, the fire service said: "The crew had to use a winch, strop and riot shield to remove the bull from the tree.
"The bull was released back in to the field and seems none the worse for wear for the ordeal."
