French president Emmanuel Macron has fulfilled the dreams of many footballing fans, by having a kickabout with his favourite team.

The leader is on holiday in Marseille with his wife Brigitte, and met up with Olympique Marseille of Ligue 1.

French winger Florian Thauvin, 24, spoke of his “pride” and “pleasure” to play with his country’s 39-year-old leader.

Meanwhile 28-year-old midfielder Gregory Sertic thanked the president for the surprise visit – which included training and a lunch.

Marseille came fifth in the France’s top tier last season and Macron is said to be a big football fan – with AS reporting earlier this year that he played as a left back for a lower-tier French club some 10 years ago.

After his visit, Macron took to social media himself to thank Les Olympiens for having him.

Baller has never been a more appropriate term.
