Police are investigating the case of a driver caught on camera eating a bowl of cereal while behind the wheel in the rush hour at a busy junction.

The incident in Hampton Court south west London was captured on film by cycling instructor David Williams, 47, who recorded it on his helmet camera.

He passed the film on to Surrey Police who said today that their inquiries were "ongoing".

The driver was a middle-aged woman who was at the controls of a red Land Rover Discovery.

Mr Williams, who was travelling in the opposite direction, spotted the woman as traffic moved towards the junction. He stopped to remonstrate with the driver.

He told London's Evening Standard: " I encouraged her to put the bowl down. It was quite bonkers. I think maybe it was porridge or muesli.

"She just shrugged her shoulders. The fact the car was moving makes it completely unacceptable. She was coming up to a junction and there was a lot going on around her and the view in front of her wasn't great. It was dangerous."

Mr Williams put his footage on YouTube.

He said: "I'm passionate about road safety and I don't feel she should be able to get away with this. When you see something this idiotic you just want to share it with the world."
