Couple told off for canoodling
It is usually pupils who are scolded for canoodling at the back of the classroom, but it was a mystery couple who incurred the wrath at a teachers' union's annual conference.
The lovebirds, who have not been identified, were spotted sharing an intimate moment in the balcony of the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay, Devon, over the weekend.
As the National Union of Teachers (NUT) conference drew to a close, union president Marilyn Harrop admonished the frisky duo, saying it was "behaviour in a manner not becoming to the union", before continuing the day's business.
An observer spotted the amorous couple in the balcony and complained but it is not known if the pair were delegates or observers, a spokeswoman for the NUT said.
She also stressed their actions were far from X-rated.
She said: "There were no lewd acts, the conference was not shut down or suspended. If there was anything too extreme going on, it would have been a throwing out, not a scolding. Our president has a very dry sense of humour and I think that showed."
She said the identity of the couple and the complainant were a mystery.
She added: "We don't know who they were. It was an observer who complained so they could have been anybody."
