Police are hunting an armed robber who held up a shop while wearing a pair of boxer shorts on his head.

The man entered the branch of McColls in Lyde Road, Yeovil, Somerset, on Monday night brandishing a large kitchen knife and covering his face with the grey and white patterned boxer shorts.

Avon and Somerset Police said the robber threatened staff before making off with a quantity of cash in the direction of Victoria Road.

Police are releasing a picture of the man taken from the shop's CCTV cameras in the hope of catching him.

A police spokesman said: "The man is described as white with either a dark, tanned complexion or dirty skin, aged in his 20s, of skinny build and approximately 6ft tall. He had dark stubble and a moustache and short dark gelled hair.

"We're now appealing for residents in and around the location of Victoria Road in Yeovil to check their gardens and bins for a large kitchen-type knife and a pair of grey and white patterned boxer shorts."

Anyone with information or who recognises the man is asked to call police.
