Entrepreneurial fundraisers have made the most of the snow by creating an igloo which is being auctioned online to support the work of a cancer charity.

The igloo is described as a smartly appointed ground floor stand-alone studio apartment overlooking Harrogate Stray, in Yorkshire. It also comes with its own snowman.

Igloo builders and friends Craig Parker, Greg Davies, Carl Baranovsky, Mark Baranovsky and Tom Davies initially made the sought-after home as a bit of fun, but interest in the icy building has snowballed since it was listed on eBay in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The auction listing has attracted more than 15,000 page views and more than 74 bids, with a current high bid of £531. The friends have also raised £745 via a JustGiving page. The property has even appeared on property website Rightmove.

Craig, 31, who has fought cancer three times, said:"We've built igloos in the past and thought we'd try and build a big one this time. It took us a whole day to build, and we came up against a few risks along the way, children with no building skills, dogs with yellow snow-making capabilities and the paparazzi, but we battled on. As the igloo was in such a great location, we thought it would be funny to put it up for sale on eBay."

Craig was first diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a cancer which develops in bones or soft tissue, at the age of 13. Since then, he has undergone numerous courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, as well as surgery to remove part of his shoulder, a rib and one of his lungs.

Craig said:"Last year I had another operation on my shoulder and I have been told by my surgeon to give up my trade as a joiner as it will make my shoulder worse. It's been hard but I've always muddled through and got on with it.

"It was a joint decision to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research as many of us have been affected by cancer. We didn't think of one minute that people would bid so much, and donate so much on our JustGiving page. It's amazing."

The online listing makes a feature of the igloo's easy access to Sunday league football, its fantastic location, and the bathroom and toilet being only "a short walk" away. The igloo has no fireplace for "health and safety reasons".

Bidding closes at 8pm on January 24. To bid, visit and search for 'igloo Harrogate' or to make a donation visit
