A learner driver who allegedly stole his instructor's car in the middle of a lesson has been arrested on suspicion of theft.

The 17-year-old is suspected of speeding off while being guided through a three-point turn, leaving the instructor behind on wasteland.

The incident took place on the Hoo Peninsula in Kent at about 4pm on Monday, Kent Police said.

The instructor's MG Rover was spotted later that day in Rochester High Street where the boy was arrested.

The teenager, who is also accused of stealing a mobile phone and wallet from the car, was bailed to February 24, pending further inquiries.
