A woman has been charged with ‘malicious castration’ after allegedly biting her boyfriend's testicles so hard she tore them open.

Investigators in North Carolina in the United States are claiming Martinne Delavega (51) clamped down with her teeth with “such force… she caused permanent damage to her partner’s testicles”.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office said the 51-year-old has also been charged with assault causing serious bodily injury.

In her mugshot, taken shortly after the alleged incident, Ms Delavega can be seen with blood around her shirt.

It is understood she suffered a head injury during incident, though police said this was likely cause by her partner’s attempts to stop her.

The alleged attack took place on Wednesday and police said it stemmed from a domestic dispute between the two earlier in the day.

Appearing in front of a judge this week Ms Delavega is accused of biting and tearing open a man’s testicles, maliciously maiming and disfiguring them, as well as inflicting permanent damage.

Addressing the court, the 51-year-old insisted the incident had been a misunderstanding.

Her trial is set to continue later this week.
