Wildfire was 'work of arsonist'
A RAGING wildfire that has destroyed homes in Oklahoma and forced the evacuation of scores of residents may have been started deliberately, police said.
The fire in the town of Luther is one of at least 10 burning across Oklahoma as drought and temperatures higher than 43C have combined to wreak havoc.
But police believe the blaze in Luther, which has destroyed almost 60 homes and has left the town of 600 people without electricity or water, was an arson attack.
The blaze burned four square miles before it was extinguished.
Witnesses have reported seeing burning newspapers being tossed from a black Ford pickup truck that drove through the town before the fire started.
Mary Fallin, the Oklahoma governor, toured Luther on Saturday, hugging residents whose homes and belongings were destroyed by the fire.
"It's heartbreaking to see families that have lost so much," she said. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
