Watch: US police deliver baby girl on side of road in New Jersey

David Kearns

Dashcam footage captured the moment two New Jersey State Troopers helped deliver a baby girl by the side of a road in the early hours of the morning.

The expecting mother was being driven to the hospital by her husband at 4:14 am on Monday morning when she realised her baby was likely to come at any moment.

Pulling into a hard shoulder on the Garden State Parkway the couple dialled 911 and asked for helped.

Troopers Alex Muro and Arnaldo Mateo arrived on scene and found the mom-to-be already in labour in the backseat of the car.

In the video, the troopers can be heard telling the mom to “breathe” and “keep going”.

Moments later they announce "It's a girl!"

Both troopers assisted with cutting the umbilical cord before handing her over to mum, according to reports.

On its Facebook page, the NJ State Police praised the officers and said the mother and her baby daughter were transported by ambulance to Valley Hospital where they were last reported as to be "doing very well".
