Watch: Dashcam footage shows moment Police Officers thrown back from exploding car Newsdesk Newsdesk

Two Police Officers in Austin, Texas were injured after a man exploded his car when he saw them coming towards him, sending them both flying.

The incident was captured by Police dashcams on Tuesday Morning. Police were responding to a call from a man in distress saying he was going to blow his car up.

Arriving on the scene, the officers found a man in a white t-shirt who steps into his car shortly before both are set on fire.

One of the police officers, Cpt. Andy Reardon with the Austin Fire Department,  told KXAN-TV that the temperature inside the car got very hot very fast.

"We're talking thousands of degrees inside there, you saw the force it created right there," he said.

The man was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, while the two police officers in the video were hurt, they're conditions were considered minor.

The Austin Police Department now plan to use this video to train their new recruits.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said he was proud of his officers.

"I’m very proud of the officers’ courageous life-saving efforts and relieved their injuries were minor.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the person they saved.”
