Onlookers of a daring rescue captured the heart-stopping moment on video.

A blaze in a large apartment complex in Houston, Texas, took two and a half hours to bring under control.

Onlookers of the blaze watched in horror as one lone construction worker was left stranded on the top-floor balcony.

As the worker attempted to gain the attention of the firefighters for rescuing, one onlooker recorded the action on her phone.

Karen Jones uploaded the video to her YouTube channel, which was recorded from a nearby building on the AIG campus. Other worried onlookers in the video can be heard to exclaim that they should 'evacuate' during the course of the footage.

The constuction worker appeared to be woozy before hanging from the top floor balcony and dropping to the second, in a move that probably saved his life as the fire burst out the balcony doors.

Just as he climbed onto the crane and away from the building, the entire top floor collapsed, narrowly missing the crane.

Houston Fire Department told the Houston Chronicle that over 200 emergency personnel responded to the scene, which took two-and-a-half hours to control due to high winds.

Following the rescue, all constructions workers have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported.
